Whether enjoying a coffee or ice cream on the café patio, visiting the local shopping center, or even going to work, a well-behaved dog is a treat to bring along. And with more places welcoming dogs along with their clients, customers, and employees, we have more opportunities than ever to have our dogs with us in various aspects of our lives. However, dogs need certain skills to navigate these environments safely and without wearing out their welcome. TCOTC’s new class, K9 Companion, is aimed at helping dogs be their best-behaved selves no matter where they are.
In K9 Companion, you and your dog will focus on building mat skills in a variety of locations, strengthening impulse control, walking on a loose leash and more. Imagine arriving at your favorite biergarten with your dog politely at your side, without jumping up or pulling to meet other people and dogs, or sniffing at other people’s tables. Then imagine your dog laying calmly on its mat at your feet as you and your friends catch up on the latest. It is possible, and K9 Companion can help you get there!
The addition of K9 Companion is part of a larger effort to revamp TCOTC’s obedience curriculum to focus on two tracks: one for dogs and handlers interested in competition and working dogs, and one for dog owners who want a well-mannered companion in their lives. Earlier this year, TCOTC introduced Competition Bedrock, another Tier 2 course designed to prepare dogs and handlers for a variety of sports and competitive activities. Of course, members may enroll in whatever classes meet their needs.
Upcoming sessions of K9 Companion start on Thursday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 17 at 8:15 p.m. The cost is $110 for six weeks. Dogs must complete Basic Training or pass a skills evaluation as a prerequisite. Learn more and register today!
