After a day of training service dogs – “it’s what I like to do and I get to help people,” – a theme that comes up often in our conversation – Laura Waudby is at TCOTC doing the same on her off-hours. That’s just the kind of person Laura is…loving dogs and helping people.
Laura has been a club member for more than eight years and currently teaches a competition obedience class and a puppy prodigy course – a foundation course to prepare puppies and encourage interest in dog sports. She knows what she’s doing and the proof is the number of competitive awards she and her dogs have acquired.
Laura currently has three dogs in her family. Lance, a corgi with UDX title, Utility Dog Excellent, and is half-way to completing OTCH – Obedience Trial Championship. Then there’s Vito, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever with a Master level title in agility and a Utility title in obedience. Her puppy, Zumi, another N.S.D. Tolling Retriever, is working on foundations for competitive obedience, agility, and disc dog.
With so much experience and success behind her, I asked why she chose TCOTC as her home club. “I have a strong belief in positive training techniques and TCOTC is the best in the Twin Cities…and maybe the only one in the Twin Cities” she says. “Oh,” she continues, “I also like Bonnie’s chocolate treats and the celebratory “no-calorie” treats when our club mates win titles, too,” she says with a smile.
TCOTC is lucky to have talent such as Laura on our staff so if you’re interested in upping you and your pups game, talk to any of our instructors, including Laura, and see how our positive approach can improve your enjoyment and relationship with your dog.
