Competition Bedrock Outcomes
By participating in the Competition Bedrock class, you and your dog will achieve the following outcomes. Please note that it is not expected that these outcomes will be achieved in one 9-week session. Most dogs and handlers will need to repeat the class.
Outcomes :
- Handler Focus:
- Dog runs to handler past sitting dogs and distractions
- Dog moves with handler on a loose leash or off leash through serpentine
- Dog engages with handler for 10 seconds without food – can use toy
- Body Awareness:
- Dog pivots on a perch in both directions in front and at both sides of handler
- Dog sits and downs on a verbal cue with correct body transition– can use a front or rear foot target
- Dog walks across a variety of surfaces
- Dog backs up to a target (elevated or textured)
- Impulse Control:
- Dog settles on a mat with handler moving around at 10 feet for 1 minute
- Dog settles in their crate for 2 minutes with door closed and handler out of sight
- Dog walks politely past other dogs and other distractions
- Dog remains in place for 30 seconds with a distraction 5 feet in front of dog
- Training:
- Handler understands and uses positive reinforcement for training
- Handler can shape behaviors such as tricks
- Behaviors:
- Dog follows hand target 6 feet and around handler
- Dog goes out 6 feet to a target with a nose or foot touch
- Dog moves around cone or upright object in both directions starting from a position next to handler
- Dog picks up object (toy, ball, dumbbell, etc.) and returns to handler at 6 feet
