SUMMARY:AKC ACT Tests
DESCRIPTION:Ready to Test Your Team? Enter an AKC Agility Course Test! \nWhether you’re just stepping onto the agility course for the first time\, or you’ve got years of competition under your belt and are introducing a new dog to the sport\, the AKC Agility Course Test (ACT) is the perfect way to showcase the teamwork you’ve built with your dog. \nWhat is an ACT? \nThe ACT is a non-competitive skills test where you and your dog run a standard agility course — no pressure\, no placements\, just you\, your dog\, and the clock. Pass two courses of the same class and earn an official AKC title: ACT 1\, ACT 2\, ACT 1J\, or ACT 2J. \nFor all ACT tests\, you must earn 85 points to qualify. Run-outs and refusals will not be judged. There are no weave poles in ACT 1 and ACT 1J\, and 6 weave poles in ACT 2 and ACT 2J. For more information on the obstacles used in the various ACT classes\, visit the AKC site. \nWho is eligible to enter? \nIf your dog has not earned a title in any AKC agility class and is 15 months of age or older they are eligible! To earn an ACT title\, you need to complete two qualifying runs in the same class (ACT1\, ACT2\, ACT1J\, or ACT2J). We recommend that you sign up for Course A and Course B in the same class\, unless you already have a qualifying run in that class. You can complete an ACT 1 and ACT 2 (standard and/or jumpers) on the same day. You can also earn an ACT 2 or ACT 2J  title without successfully completing ACT 1 or ACT 1J. \nWhy Enter? \n\nNew to agility? The ACT is a low-stakes\, welcoming environment to get your first taste of official competition. We’ll run the test to mimic an actual trial experience as much as possible\, so you’ll leave not only with a potential title\, but with the confidence and know-how to step into your first official trial ready to compete.\nSeasoned competitor with a new dog? Use the ACT to tune up your runs or earn your dog’s first agility title.\nAll purebred and AKC-registered\, mixed-breed dogs welcome! if your dog can run\, they can title. Your dog does not need to be registered with the AKC at the time of entry\, but you must have an AKC number or Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) number in order to receive the official title.\n\nHow to Register \nThe cost is $20 per run\, which includes the $5 AKC recording fee. Entries are open now. Same-day entries are allowed. \nENROLL HERE! \nAdditional Details \n\nCrating will be available in the Ring Room\, or you may crate from your car.\nA judging schedule will be released several days before the event.\nVolunteers are welcome! If you’d like to volunteer\, please email anneschenk@tcotc.com. No experience needed! All jobs are easy to learn on the spot.\n\nPlease note: This is a live event\, and not a Virtual ACT Test. \nPhoto by Harlow Takes Photos features TCOTC member Casey.

SUMMARY:Agility Seminars with Liz Randall
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend of learning and fun with Liz Randall! Liz offering five half-day agility seminars covering everything from short sequences to weaves to international handling. Working spots are $150 members/$180 nonmembers and are limited to 7 per session. No refunds unless we can fill your spot. Audit spots are $30 members/$50 non-members. The lineup for the weekend is below\, followed by full session descriptions and registration information. We hope you can join us! \nFriday\, May 15\n– 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.: Short Sequences for Novice/Intermediate Dogs \nSaturday\, May 16\n– 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Weaves\n– 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Tweenies \nSunday\, May 17\n– 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Reinforcement Strategies\n– 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: International Handling \nShort Sequences for Novice/Intermediate Dogs:\nThis session focuses on simple\, flowing agility sequences designed to build confidence and understanding in novice and intermediate teams. Handlers will work on timing\, reward placement\, and basic handling skills while dogs gain experience staying connected through short\, manageable course patterns. The emphasis is on clarity\, confidence\, and success in a supportive learning environment.\nREGISTER HERE \nWeaves:\nSharpen your dog s weave pole skills with a focus on confident entries\, independence\, and speed. This seminar covers effective drills\, handler timing\, and troubleshooting common issues to help teams build reliable\, competition-ready weaves. Perfect for a variety of skill levels looking to strengthen performance and consistency.\nREGISTER HERE \nTweenies\nIn “tween” dogs\, I am looking for confidence\, focus\, the ability to drive away from the handler “to do the thing\,” and a consistent return to the handler for reinforcement and/or continuing direction. This session is for dogs that are just starting to navigate the individual obstacles and who are learning obstacle cues and commitment. We will focus on building fluency of forward obstacle cues (jumps and tunnels)\, and build out micro-sequences or chains around those skills\, based upon each team’s individual needs.\nREGISTER HERE \nReinforcement Strategies\nThis session is a primer on reinforcement mechanics and clean training. Just because you reward your dog does not mean you are doing it as efficiently and effectively as possible! Understanding the principles behind reinforcement and how to apply those principles effectively in training is the gateway for stronger behaviors and more resilient dogs. We will cover reinforcement delivery\, placement and timing\, marker cues\, clean loops\, and on how to maximize your reward procedures. We will primarily focus on food rewards\, but if dogs work for both food and toys\, we can absolutely work on both systems individually. This session is appropriate for ALL levels of dog-handler teams\, including teams that need help in the “motivation” or “over-arousal” departments.\nREGISTER HERE \nInternational Handling\nTake your handling skills to the next level with a focus on international-style agility sequences. This seminar covers advanced handling techniques. Teams will work through challenging sequences designed to improve timing\, clarity\, and connection between handler and dog\, with an emphasis on strategic course management for Masters and International-level competition.\nREGISTER HERE  \nAbout Liz Randall: Elizabeth\, or Liz\, Randall has lived and worked with animals since early childhood. In her mid-thirties\, upon finding her hands full with a new rescue dog that operated “outside the box” in the behavior department\, she simultaneously discovered clicker-training and the sport of dog agility. These two revelations quickly changed her career trajectory from over a decade in sports marketing to living wholeheartedly in the animal training world. \nUsing the most current\, positive reinforcement-based training methods\, Liz has held her Certified Pet Dog Trainer credential (CPDT-KA) since 2011\, and works regularly with both high level behavior modification and canine sport clientele\, locally in Southern California and across the country. \nLiz actively competes in agiltiy at the national level and she and her dogs have won and podiumed at the UKI US Open\, the UKI West Coast Open\, multiple UKI Cups and Classics\, and multiple USDAA Regional events. Liz works with clients in the San Diego\, California area\, at private facilities across the US\, and online at Topo Dogs with her partner Rachel Pearson. She loves to teach her students the importance of learning theory\, how to better observe their dogs\, and technical training mechanics. \nWhile dog sports is her life\, her true love is being well off the beaten path out in nature with her dogs. You can find her online at www.resilientdogs.com and www.topodogs.com.
