SUMMARY:Trial Preparation Seminars with Laura Waudby
DESCRIPTION:Trial Preparation Seminars with Laura Waudby\nReady to take your training from the practice field to the competition ring?Join us for a day of seminars with renowned trainer Laura Waudby\, designed to help teams bridge the gap between training and confident trial performance in any sport! Laura will dive into practical strategies for building ring-readiness\, managing arousal\, strengthening focus\, and preparing your dog for the unique pressures of trial environments. Whether you’re gearing up for your very first show or looking to polish seasoned skills\, you’ll leave with clear\, doable techniques to help your dog shine where it counts most. \n8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Rewards at a Distance \nAre you struggling to keep your dog’s focus without feeling like a Pez dispenser?  Your dog looks brilliant in practice… as long as they know you have food on you! But the moment you set the rewards down\, your dog struggles: Sniffing. Zoomies. Visiting others! \nMaking that bridge to competing without the food feels impossible and even overwhelming with where to start.  You’ve likely tried before!  And maybe even felt like YOU might be more attached to the security blanket of holding food than your dog! \nThe goal of this seminar is to introduce a zen bowl to your training sessions.  A small dish holding the dog’s reward; without a lid to stop them from having a free-for-all! We will discuss how to train this seemingly impossible skill to teach your dog how to willingly leave the reward in order to get it later!  And how to progress this into the skills you need to be trial ready! \nDogs working in this seminar should have the ability to work (on leash) in a group as multiple teams may be working at once.  This seminar is geared towards dog sport skills and future trial preparation in any sport. \nWorking spots: $85 members/$100 non-members. Ten working spots available.\nAudit spots: $25 members/$40 members. Unlimited audit spots. \nREGISTER HERE \n1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Ring Confidence for Obedience & Rally (and other sports!) \nMost handlers spend years teaching their dogs the specific exercises found in the obedience and rally ring. We break down teaching heeling\, and then we spend several more months making sure our dogs can perform their heeling with a wide variety of distractions. We teach retrieves\, exams\, recalls\, and stays. \nYet we often fail to teach our dog what to actually expect at a trial.  They are thrown into this new\, chaotic environment with a stressed handler. Most dogs immediately disconnect from their handler as they enter through those ring gates at a show.  They go from perfect focus outside\, to barely acknowledging their human once inside the ring. \nAnd many of them do not get better with repeated exposure. For most dogs\, the opposite happens\, and the dog quickly get worse in each new trial! Because you are limited in what support you can give them in a trial\, the dog is left experiencing that stress and realizing that the rules for trials are different than practice. \nThis seminar looks at teaching the dog\, and human!\, exactly what to expect and what to DO at each little point in a trial. From the moment you arrive to the moment you exit the ring and reward them. Teach the little pieces such as how to handle waiting outside the ring\, a judge asking if you’re ready\, how to move with connection between each exercise\, how to handle delays\, and more!  Build your dog’s confidence at each step of the game and learn ways to support them in a trial environment. \nWorking teams for this seminar should have at least 10ft of focused heeling/attention walking without a visible reward.  Dogs should also have the ability to work (on leash) in a group as multiple teams may be working at once for some exercises. Dogs do not need to be trialing or even close to being ready to enter a trial!  Working on these exercises well before your dog starts trialing is ideal\, but it’s not too late to start fixing trial issues either! \nWorking spots: $85 members/$100 non-members. Eight working spots available.\nAudit spots: $25 members/$40 members. Unlimited audit spots. \nREGISTER HERE \nAbout Laura Waudby: TCOTC instructor Laura Waudby trains and competes in obedience\, rally\, and agility. Due to the special behavior needs of her Toller\, Vito\, Laura developed a strong interest in learning how to create motivation and confidence in dogs that struggle to make it into the competition ring.  She was halfway to her OTCH with her UDX corgi\, Lance\, before his unexpected early retirement.  She also has several championship titles in USDAA and UKI agility. Laura was previously a service dog trainer for 10 years in a variety of roles from directly training the dogs for their specific jobs\, to helping the puppy raisers and clients with how to train their dogs. Now Laura teaches for Fenzi Dog Sports Academy with online classes focusing on trial preparation and advanced obedience skills. Her goal as a trainer is to help both dogs and humans find the joy in training!

Emphasis will be placed on reading courses\, making smart handling decisions\, and maintaining flow while supporting your dog’s confidence and understanding. \nWhether you’re preparing to move up a level or looking to solidify your performance where you are\, this seminar offers a supportive environment to learn\, problem-solve\, and gain tools you can immediately apply to your training and trialing. \nREGISTER HERE \nAbout Kelsey Kirkpatrick: Kelsey has been doing agility for 24 years. She teaches classes weekly and teaches online students. She is a 5-time National Champion with 3 different dogs and a 37-time regional champion with 4 different dogs. She’s a 5-time World Team Member and has placed or been a finalist at numerous regional\, national\, and international events. SUMMARY:Agility Seminars with Rachel Pearson
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend of learning and fun with Rachel Pearson! We’ve put together a fantastic lineup of seminar sessions with something for everyone. We’ll kick things off on Friday with a workshop for Young Dogs—dogs 6–18 months old. On Saturday\, we’ll dive into stimulus control. Sunday morning focuses on building distance and obstacle commitment\, followed by a Sunday afternoon session on developing independence through jump cues. Rachel’s seminars are chock full of information\, so both workers and auditors will benefit greatly. Details for each session are listed below: \nFriday\, January. 2\, 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.: Young Dogs: The early months of an agility dog’s career can be difficult to navigate. There is so very much to learn! While their bodies may look like grown dogs on the outside\, on the inside there is still so much growing occurring\, and so there is still a lot that the dogs can not do safely in training. These months are a great time to work on conceptual skills and the very beginning of obstacle foundations. Strategic training allows us to teach the dog all of the skills they need to understand to perform obstacle sequences\, but without actually doing obstacles themselves. This workshop will focus on concepts and skill building. Teaching commitment\, duration behaviors\, how to prioritize verbal cues\, stimulus control\, and behavior chains. Appropriate for dogs 6-18 months. The dog must be able to work off leash around other dogs. It is highly encouraged that the dog know how to go around a wing or cone and how you stay for a brief amount of time. \nWorking spots (limited to 7): $150 members/$180 non-members\nAudit spots (unlimited): $40 members/$60 non-members \nREGISTER HERE \nSaturday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 pm.: Do It When I Cue It: Stimulus Control: Based on Rachel’s very popular online class (Stimulus Control Games)\, this seminar addresses how to obtain control of our reinforcements\, how to apply stimulus control to our reinforcement and obstacles\, and how to apply it to our ring performance. Stimulus control means that when we cue a behavior\, the dog reliably performs that behavior—“tunnel” prompts taking the tunnel\, not grabbing a toy. Because of this\, stimulus control is at the core of everything we train. Many common agility issues—broken start-line stays\, missed contacts\, or off-course tunnels—stem from weak stimulus control. \nDogs who struggle in the ring often show similar challenges around reinforcement: snatching toys\, fixating on hands\, or leaving their handler to find rewards elsewhere. Stress behaviors like sniffing\, barking\, spinning\, biting\, or disengaging can also appear when dogs don’t understand how to earn reinforcement. These issues often occur together because dogs lacking stimulus control around rewards become frustrated and inconsistent in performance. \nRachel’s stimulus control program helps teams build clarity and confidence around reinforcement and apply those skills to agility behaviors. The workshop covers the difference between stimulus vs. impulse control\, how to develop stimulus control through positive reinforcement\, clean training mechanics\, using different types of reinforcement\, maintaining control in the ring\, and more. \nWorking spots (limited to 7): $250 members/$280 non-members\nAudit spots (unlimited): $60 members/$80 non-members \nREGISTER HERE \nSunday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Training Distance and Commitment:  Want your dog to power through obstacles confidently—even when you’re not right beside them? Build the skills that keep your runs smooth\, fast\, and controlled! In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll learn how to increase your dog’s independence on course\, strengthen obstacle commitment\, and improve your handling choices at longer distances. Perfect for teams looking to tighten up tricky lines\, shave off seconds\, and boost overall confidence. Let’s level up your teamwork and send work! (This is not full course work\, but may include short sequences of jumps/tunnels.) \nWorking spots (limited to 7): $150 members/$180 non-members\nAudit spots (unlimited): $40 members/$60 non-members \nREGISTER HERE \nSunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Creating Independent Jump Cues: Take your agility teamwork to the next level by developing true independent jump skills—no micromanaging required! In this focused workshop\, we’ll build clear\, reliable cues for backsides\, threadles\, and other technical jump behaviors so your dog can confidently read the obstacle while you move ahead on course. By teaching these as obstacle skills (not handled responses)\, you’ll gain tighter lines\, cleaner execution\, and more freedom in your handling. \nHandlers should be able to place a toy or use a Treat & Train. Perfect for teams ready to level up their precision\, trust\, and speed! This session is also appropriate for very young dogs (at least 7 months old) who aren’t sequencing\, as long as they understand the concept of going around wings and can handle the placed reinforcement. \nWorking spots (limited to 7): $150 members/$180 non-members\nAudit spots (unlimited): $40 members/$60 non-members \nREGISTER HERE \n*NOTE: No refunds will be issued unless we can fill your spot. \n**if you are not sure if you and your dog have the skills for a particular workshop\, Rachel encourages you to contact her directly at info@strategicdogsports.com. She is happy to answer your questions and may even schedule a private lesson to help you prepare. \nLearn more about Rachel Pearson here.
