We recently invited veterinary students from the University of Minnesota to attend an obedience class at TCOTC. This was a fantastic way to show the future leaders in the pet health industry how a world-class training facility boosts dog behavior. One of the students, Katie Wollenburg, has participated in the class two years in a row. Sometimes training a dog gets put on the back burner with school taking up so much time. Many of us can relate to this with our own jobs, school, and volunteer work. Katie’s opportunity to get out of the house, and strengthen her bond with her dog, was her favorite part of the outing. Katie was impressed with the instructor’s ability to individualize training to meet the specific needs of each dog. She loved that the instructor added some “fun tricks” to the class such as lick, roll over, and sit up, while still reinforcing the basic commands of sit, stay, mat, and come that the students learned about last year. The students even learned some fun games such as the “cup” game, that they can play to keep their dog’s stimulated on those days where exercising is not an option. Besides the “interesting” location, Katie says, “TCOTC has everything going for them – great instructors and great programs, something for everyone.” We are delighted that the veterinary students at the University of Minnesota were able to come out and have a lively experience at TCOTC; and we hope they can join us again next year!
