Foundation Agility 1 and 2
Class Description: For adult dogs with some obedience background, Foundation Agility is the right place to start building a working relationship with your future agility dog. Every top-level competitor will tell you that a strong foundation in self-control, mutual trust, self-confidence and fun is a MUST for success in agility. Those who simply learn the obstacles and begin trialing without a solid foundation in the basics will develop training issues somewhere down the road - and then they will start working on foundation. In Foundation Agility, handler and dog will perfect stays and recalls, learn to move together in synchronization, gain confidence working both sides and at a distance, and experience some of the excitement of agility in a safe, controlled environment. Though a few obstacles will be introduced in these classes, the focus will be on control and teamwork.
Class Fee: $115
Prerequisites: Dogs must be at least a year of age and complete an evaluation that includes assessment of basic obedience skills. Basic obedience skills will be required before dogs may work off leash - Level 2 obedience is required. Level 3 obedience, or equivalent is strongly recommended. Club membership is required to take classes at TCOTC. Fill out this application if not already a club member.
Registration Process: Contact the agility department for information or to be put on a wait list for class enrollment. Fill out an agility skills evaluation form and send it to agilityapp@earthlink.net.
We expect to start beginning foundation classes in the early fall – probably one daytime class and one evening class. Prerequisites include obedience Level 2, and we strongly recommend Level 3 as well. NOTE: If you did not complete obedience classes at TCOTC, you should schedule an evaluation with our obedience department.
