Managing Aggression Class

This class is for dogs that are aggressive or show fear-based aggression towards other dogs. These dogs may bark and lunge, growl and show their teeth, and even attack other dogs. Typically owners find that these behaviors get worse over time. This class addresses the underlying reasons for aggressive behavior—stress, fear, and feeling challenged by other dogs.

The class is a self paced class where you will:

  • Learn how to identify when your dog is stressed, fearful, aroused or feeling challenged by other dogs. Your dog’s behavior is how they tell you they might become aggressive.
  • Develop management skills for your dog to help prevent aggressive episodes.
  • Teach the dog how to relax in the presence of other dogs.
  • Help your dog be more comfortable and less stressed by using proven training techniques.

Evaluation and behavior consultation.

To be admitted to the class, dogs and owners must complete an orientation session. In that session the dog will receive a behavior evaluation, an individualized behavior training plan for your dog that addresses your dog’s specific needs, and a referral to the behavior class or other training options as appropriate. Evaluations may be done at TCOTC or in your home. The cost for an evaluation at TCOTC is $50.00 per hour. The cost for an evaluation in your home is $75 per hour. Evaluations generally last from one to one and a half hours.
